Foto-Friday - Turkey 2008

This was inside of an extensive network of man made underground rooms and tunnels.

There are 'Turkish' rugs and then there are these. The craftsmanship behind these is astounding.

It seemed like all of Cappadocia was carved from the rocks.

The intricacy of these buildings is unbelievable considering how long ago these structures were chiseled from the hills.

It's even more astounding inside them.

Most, if not all of these were taken in Cappadocia. The rustic quality of this area, paired with its historical significance was staggering. I only wish I'd taken better notes (and pictures).

Due to the religious nature of this area as well as many of the photos I'd like to say that this post is neither a place to proseletyze nor persecute. It's a place for me to bore you with my 'vacation' slides. Bwahahaha ; ) Enjoy!

Nice pics ...

I spent some time in Turkey too. But never had the time or opportunity to taske as nice of photos as these. it does bring back memories though of how ancient everthing was away from the major cities.

Oh, absolutely fabulous!

It's amazing what people can make of the natural environment. :)

I really like the pottery too.

Nice photos, NNN. I wondered about the snow in some of the photos since I have this image of Turkey as a nice, warm place. :) But then I looked it up and seems that it's at an elevation of over 1000m (3300ft).

Wow! These are all fantastic! But that city in the rocks is truly awesome. It makes me feel like I want to walk into the picture and go exploring.
